Writing moderation & understanding gaps in learning Yr 3/4 (5 sessions)

Moderation of pupils’ writing at each standard from September 2020 will be completed at the initial session and a clear understanding of the gaps in learning will have been discussed. At the follow-up session, a clear focus on ways to narrow those gaps will be provided. All sessions will be delivered on-line with the opportunity to discuss pupils’ writing in break out rooms. Subject leaders are most welcome to attend sessions in order to engage with the training and support with moderation of each year group back at school. This series of sessions will develop teachers’ ability to explain why a pupil is working at one standard and not at the following standard. Teachers will choose one pupil who was targeted to meet each standard (WTS, EXS, GDS) in their previous year. These pupils will be tracked over the year. Their progress will be considered at future moderation sessions. There will be an opportunity to add pupils’ written work to a shared database of year group samples. The uploaded work will include next steps for each sample. Over the year, The Literacy Company team will validate consistency of written work within the shared database.
