Understanding child sexual exploitation of children and young people

This one day course is for practitioners and managers who work with children and young people who may be at risk of sexual exploitation, or are being sexually exploited.

Course aims:

The course will increase skills and confidence to help staff to recognise and respond appropriately to child sexual exploitation.

Learning outcomes: At the end of this course participants will have;

• Gained knowledge and understanding of the definition, current research, guidance and legislation in relation to the sexual exploitation of children and young people

• Explored the process of child sexual exploitation and identified opportunities for intervention

• Explored the complexity of consent

• Familiarised participants with tools to assess risk

• Considered strategies for preventing sexual exploitation of children and young people.

The format for the day will include formal presentation and group work designed to help participants understand the complexities of child sexual exploitation, challenge some of the commonly held beliefs, and develop practice in relation to recognising and responding to child sexual exploitation.
