TA workshop – supporting English teaching in Years 5 & 6

This series of 3 sessions is ideal to support TAs in Years 5 & 6 with a focuson writing and reading development. There will also be a focus on how can planning be adapted to suit needs of pupils.

Please note that this booking is for 3 sessions across the year. When a booking is made, you will be required to provide the name and direct email address of the delegate attending. This is so that pre and post course information can be sent directly to them.

All sessions are held at Wolverham Primary School and take place between 1:15 – 4:15pm. Please add all dates below to diaries:

Session overviews

Session 1: Look at progression in writing skills and how the skills link across each KS. Consider work in pupils’ books. Is the pitch appropriate? Are gaps in learning being addressed? Adapt planning with this focus at the forefront. Engage with a range of activities to support and enhance teaching of all groups of pupils across appropriate elements of writing.

Session 2: Look at progression in reading skills and how the skills link across each year group. Consider pupils’ current reading abilities. Is the pitch appropriate? Are gaps in learning being addressed? Adapt planning with this focus at the forefront. Engage with a range of activities to support and enhance teaching of all groups of pupils.

Session 3: Building on session 2, look at progression in reading skills and how the skills link across each year group. Consider pupils’ current reading abilities. Is the pitch appropriate? Are gaps in learning being addressed? Adapt planning with this focus at the forefront. Engage with a range of activities to support and enhance teaching of all groups of pupils.

Outcomes: Clear understanding of pupils’ gaps in learning, knowledge of how to address gaps, ways to adapt planning to suit individual/groups needs
