Supporting KS1 low attaining children to master fundamental areas of mathematics and Literacy.
One day course with half the day focusing on maths and half the day focusing on Literacy.
Audience: KS1 Teachers /Teaching assistants with low attaining children.
In the maths sessions, teachers will explore the Concrete, Pictorial Abstract approach to teaching and learning for mastery of the curriculum. They will focus on how to make use of appropriate models and images and practical resources to support children’s conceptual understanding, particularly focusing on lower attaining pupils.
In the Literacy sessions teachers will explore strategies to encourage confidence in early writing skills. The focus will be on effective strategies such as shared writing, oral work and activities to embed grammar and punctuation.
