Please note that this booking is for all 4 sessions across the academic year. When the booking is made you will be required to provide the name of your English Subject Leader attending and their direct email address. This is so any important information or reminders can be communicated before the sessions take place.

All English Subject Leader sessions will be held at Wolverham Primary School, Ellesmere Port.

Session 1 – Thursday 11th October 1:15-5:00pm

Subject leaders will recap on the mastery approach to writing and assessment of writing prior to teachers attending the individual year group courses. There will be a focus on long-term plans to ensure the effective progression of mastery skills in each year group. Subject leaders will be guided through effective approaches to the monitoring of English to ensure the mastery approach is having an impact on writing standards. Subject leaders will reflect on their action plan for English.

Session 2 – Wednesday 23rd January 1:15-5:00pm

Monitoring of the mastery approach will continue to be a focus of session 2. Subject leaders will then be led through a whole-school approach to the teaching of vocabulary from EYFS to Upper KS2. This will focus on the importance of vocabulary instruction ans key principles and practice. Subject leaders will reflect on their action plan for English and references will be made to OFSTED priorities and ‘Mind the gap’ vocabulary development resources.

Session 3 – Thursday 21st March 1:15-5:00pm

Monitoring of the mastery approach will continue to be a focus of session 3. Subject leaders will be guided through effective reading assessment strategies. They will analyse the assessment of reading in their school and consider best approaches to ensure consistency from EYFS to Y6.

Session 4 – Wednesday 19th June 1:15-5:00pm

Monitoring of the mastery approach will continue to be a focus of session 4. Subject leaders will be guided through effective strategies to inspire boys’ writing development. They will consider the characteristics of reluctant writers and how to engage boys in writing A range of appropriate texts to engage and inspire boys’ writing will be shared.
