Practical Primary Geography with Chris Trevor

Course overview

What does quality teaching of Geography look like?

Explore how to ensure coverage of the National Curriculum KS1 and KS2 Geography requirements through practical creative methods which will engage children and which can be adapted for different year groups or themes, whilst ensuring progression and challenge for all learners, in line with the current focus for a broad and balanced curriculum, which develops knowledge, skills and vocabulary.

The subject content for Geography can appear demanding in the National Curriculum. We will explore ways to make the Locational and Place Knowledge exciting and develop the children’s understanding of places and the human and physical processes in meaningful cross curricular links to learning in other subjects.

We will look at how to develop the early map skills of KS1 geographers and then further develop KS2 geographers by using and understanding Ordnance Survey maps. Fieldwork ideas to develop rigorous geographical enquiry will be covered with progression for both KS1 and KS2.
N.B. We will be going outside for part of the day so please come prepared!

Delegates can request which places or geographical themes and areas of study, they would like practical ideas for.
