Overview

This is a time of increased scrutiny of History and Geography in light of the new Ofsted Education Framework and the need for a broad and balanced curriculum. Each meeting will cover the latest initiatives, developments, news and resources. There will be discussion and suggestions to support the continuing development of being an effective History and/or Geography subject leader. There will also be practical activities and useful resources, which you can take back to share with colleagues. Every meeting will contain elements of sharing good practice, talking informally to the group and sharing the initiatives they have implemented at their school and discussing the impact they have had. Strategies will be shared to implement latest initiatives or N.C. or Ofsted’s latest requirements.

Outcomes

  • The first session in November will help you unpick what is required if your subject is selected for a “deep dive” by Ofsted, how to build your evidence trail and support you in identifying priorities from the latest requirements to support action planning.
  • The Spring and Summer meetings will have a bespoke element, with practical activities and suggested resources as requested by the subject leaders at the previous term’s meeting.
  • The April meeting will also contain suggestions for historical learning outside the classroom and fieldwork. Please come prepared to work outside for a short activity, which you can adapt for all ages in both subjects.
