Emergency Paediatric First Aid – One Day Course

Course Outline

This course provides an introduction to first aid for babies and children, enabling learners to respond to a range of emergency situations. It is specifically designed for newly qualified level 2/3 childcare practitioners, or those who have an interest in child or infant basic life support.

Whilst this course is recognised by Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and does meet Childcare Registration regulations, the requirements state that childcare settings must always have at least one fully qualified paediatric first aider available whenever children are present.

Course Outcomes

The course syllabus includes…

  • Responsibilities and reporting | Assessing the situation | Resuscitation | Dealing with an unresponsive casualty | Minor injuries | Epilepsy | Wounds and bleeding | Anaphylaxis | Shock
  • Assessment is ongoing by the instructor, along with a multiple choice question paper after each day, and a three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.
  • The maximum group size for the course is 12 learners, who must be a minimum of 16 years of age. 
  • The Emergency Paediatric First Aid (England, Wales, Northern Ireland RQF level 3 / Scotland SCQG level 6) qualification is valid for three years. The course consists of six contact hours, including of practical and theoretical activities.
