Creative approaches to ‘Working Scientifically’ from Curriculum 2014

“Working scientifically” is embedded in the new curriculum, but how do we ensure we are helping our young scientists become real investigators? This practical course outlines the changes to the new science curriculum focussing on different types of enquiry to be used in a more creative science experience in the primary classroom.

Ideas and activities using all the different types of enquiry at each key stage, as outlined in the new document, form a large part of the day. Creative contexts and continuity and progression in each different type of enquiry will also be covered. Delegates will leave with a pack of resources that includes ideas for different types of enquiry for each year group and science topic.

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the difference between “scientific enquiry” and “working scientifically”
  • Know a host of “working scientifically” ideas and activities suitable for their children
  • Understand what progression looks like in all types of enquiry and use this understanding to differentiate more effectively
